2008-01-24Kobject: change net/bridge to use kobject_create_and_addGreg Kroah-Hartman
The kobject in the bridge code is only used for registering with sysfs, not for any lifespan rules. This patch changes it to be only a pointer and use the simpler api for this kind of thing. 2008-01-24UIO: fix kobject usageGreg Kroah-Hartman

2008-01-24kobject: clean up debugging messagesGreg Kroah-Hartman
The kobject debugging messages are a mess. This provides a unified message that makes them actually useful. The format for new kobject debug messages should be: kobject: 'KOBJECT_NAME' (ADDRESS): FUNCTION_NAME: message.\n Cc: Kay Sievers <kay.sievers@vrfy.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2008-01-24kobject: grab the kset reference in kobject_add, not kobject_initGreg Kroah-Hartman
kobject_init should not be grabing any references, but only initializing the object. This patch fixes this, and makes the lock hold-time shorter for when a kset is present in the kobject. The current kernel tree has been audited to verify that this change should be safe. Cc: Kay Sievers <kay.sievers@vrfy.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2008-01-24driver core: make /sys/power a kobjectGreg Kroah-Hartman
/sys/power should not be a kset, that's overkill. This patch renames it to power_kset and fixes up all usages of it in the tree. Cc: Kay Sievers <kay.sievers@vrfy.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2008-01-24driver core: clean up device_shutdownGreg Kroah-Hartman
device_shutdown does not need to be in a separate file. Move it into the driver core file where it belongs. This also moves us one more step closer to making devices_kset static, now only the crazy sysdevs are keeping that from happening... Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2008-01-24driver core: clean up shutdown.cGreg Kroah-Hartman
shutdown.c had some stuff it did not need, including a duplicate extern in the power.h file. This cleans up all of that. Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>

2008-01-24kobject: clean up rpadlpar horrid sysfs abuseGreg Kroah-Hartman
rpadlpar pci hotplug driver was doing some pretty bad stuff with the sysfs files. This cleans up the logic to be sane and gets rid of the gratuitous kset that is not needed for a simple directory like this. Note, this patch is not even build tested, let alone run-time tested. Someone with access to this hardware and can test would be greatly appreciated. 2008-01-24kobject: remove subsystem_(un)register functionsGreg Kroah-Hartman

2008-01-24kobject: convert kernel_kset to be a kobjectGreg Kroah-Hartman
kernel_kset does not need to be a kset, but a much simpler kobject now that we have kobj_attributes. We also rename kernel_kset to kernel_kobj to catch all users of this symbol with a build error instead of an easy-to-ignore build warning. Cc: Kay Sievers <kay.sievers@vrfy.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2008-01-24kset: remove decl_subsys macroGreg Kroah-Hartman
This macro is no longer used. ksets should be created dynamically with a call to kset_create_and_add() not declared statically. Yes, there are 5 remaining static struct kset usages in the kernel tree, but they will be fixed up soon. Cc: Kay Sievers <kay.sievers@vrfy.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2008-01-24kset: convert block_subsys to use kset_createGreg Kroah-Hartman

2008-01-24kset: convert ocfs2 to use kset_createGreg Kroah-Hartman

2008-01-24firmware: change firmware_kset to firmware_kobjGreg Kroah-Hartman
There is no firmware "subsystem" it's just a directory in /sys that other portions of the kernel want to hook into. So make it a kobject not a kset to help alivate anyone who tries to do some odd kset-like things with this. 2008-01-24firmware: remove firmware_(un)register()Greg Kroah-Hartman

2008-01-24kobject: convert /sys/firmware/acpi/ to use kobject_createGreg Kroah-Hartman

2008-01-24Driver Core: kill subsys_attribute and default sysfs opsKay Sievers
Remove the no longer needed subsys_attributes, they are all converted to the more sensical kobj_attributes. There is no longer a magic fallback in sysfs attribute operations, all kobjects which create simple attributes need explicitely a ktype assigned, which tells the core what was intended here. 2008-01-24kobject: convert parisc/pdc_stable to kobj_attr interfaceGreg Kroah-Hartman
This makes the code a bit simpler and and gets us one step closer to deleting the deprecated subsys_attr code. NOTE, this needs the next patch in the series in order to work properly. 2008-01-24fix struct user_info export's sysfs interactionKay Sievers
Clean up the use of ksets and kobjects. Kobjects are instances of objects (like struct user_info), ksets are collections of objects of a similar type (like the uids directory containing the user_info directories). So, use kobjects for the user_info directories, and a kset for the "uids" directory. On object cleanup, the final kobject_put() was missing. 2008-01-24Driver Core: switch all dynamic ksets to kobj_sysfs_opsKay Sievers

2008-01-24Driver Core: add kobj_attribute handlingKay Sievers
Add kobj_sysfs_ops to replace subsys_sysfs_ops. There is no need for special kset operations, we want to be able to use simple attribute operations at any kobject, not only ksets. The whole concept of any default sysfs attribute operations will go away with the upcoming removal of subsys_sysfs_ops. 2008-01-24kset: convert struct bus_device->drivers to use kset_createGreg Kroah-Hartman
Dynamically create the kset instead of declaring it statically. Having 3 static kobjects in one structure is not only foolish, but ripe for nasty race conditions if handled improperly.
