At the moment UBIFS reserves twice old index size space for the index. But this is not enough in some cases, because if the indexing node are very fragmented and there are many small gaps, while the dirty index has big znodes - in-the-gaps method would fail. UBIFS aligns node lengths to 8, so budgeting has to do the same. Well, direntry, inode, and page budgets are already aligned, but not inode data budget (e.g., data in special devices or symlinks). Every time anything is deleted, UBIFS writes the deletion inode node twice - once in 'ubifs_jnl_update()' and the second time in 'ubifs_jnl_write_inode()'. However, the second write is not needed if no commit happened after 'ubifs_jnl_update()'. This patch checks that condition and avoids writing the deletion inode for the second time. Orphan inodes are deleted inodes which will disappear after FS re-mount. There is not need to write orphan inodes back, because they are not needed on the flash media. We use ubifs_ro_mode() quite a lot, and not in fast-path, so there is no reason to blow the code up by having it inlined. Also, we usually want R/O mode change to be seen to other CPUs as soon as possible, so when we make this a function call, we will automatically have a memory barrier. 2008-08-13UBIFS: ensure UBIFS switches to read-only on errorAdrian Hunter
UBI transparently handles write errors by automatically copying and remapping the affected eraseblock. If UBI is unable to do that, for example its pool of eraseblocks reserved for bad block handling is empty, then the error is propagated to UBIFS. UBIFS must protect the media from falling into an inconsistent state by immediately switching to read-only mode. In the case of log updates, this was not being done. The 'ubifs_release_dirty_inode_budget()' was buggy and incorrectly freed the budget, which led to not freeing all dirty data budget. This patch fixes that. Also, this patch fixes ubifs_mkdir() which passed 1 in dirty_ino_d, which makes no sense. Well, it is harmless though. Also, add few more useful assertions. And improve few debugging messages. The attached patch seems to already exist in a number of branches -- it keeps popping up on Google for me, and is certainly already in Debian -- but is strangely absent from mainstream. The problem appears to be that the patched file ends up as part of the target toolchain, but unfortunately the gcc constant folding doesn't appear to eliminate the __invalid_size_argument_for_IOC value early enough. Certainly compiling C++ programs which use _IO... macros as constants fails without this patch. 2008-08-12docsrc: build Documentation/ sourcesRandy Dunlap
Currently source files in the Documentation/ sub-dir can easily bit-rot since they are not generally buildable, either because they are hidden in text files or because there are no Makefile rules for them. This needs to be fixed so that the source files remain usable and good examples of code instead of bad examples. Add the ability to build source files that are in the Documentation/ dir. Add to Kconfig as "BUILD_DOCSRC" config symbol. Use "CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=1 make ..." to build objects from the Documentation/ sources. Or enable BUILD_DOCSRC in the *config system. However, this symbol depends on HEADERS_CHECK since the header files need to be installed (for userspace builds). Built (using cross-tools) for x86-64, i386, alpha, ia64, sparc32, sparc64, powerpc, sh, m68k, & mips. 2008-08-12seq_file: add seq_cpumask(), seq_nodemask()Alexey Dobriyan
Short enough reads from /proc/irq/*/smp_affinity return -EINVAL for no good reason. This became noticed with NR_CPUS=4096 patches, when length of printed representation of cpumask becase 1152, but cat(1) continued to read with 1024-byte chunks. bitmap_scnprintf() in good faith fills buffer, returns 1023, check returns -EINVAL. Fix it by switching to seq_file, so handler will just fill buffer and doesn't care about offsets, length, filling EOF and all this crap. For that add seq_bitmap(), and wrappers around it -- seq_cpumask() and seq_nodemask(). 2008-08-12atmel_lcdfb: set ypanstep to 1 and enable y-panning on AT91Haavard Skinnemoen
Panning in the y-direction can be done by simply changing the DMA base address. This code is already in place, but FBIOPAN_DISPLAY will currently fail because ypanstep is 0. Set ypanstep to 1 to indicate that we do support y-panning and also set the necessary acceleration flags on AT91 (AVR32 already have them.)
