2010-03-03pcmcia: disable pcmcia ioctl for !ARM, prepare for removalDominik Brodowski
The PCMCIA ioctl -- deprecated for years -- suffers from insufficient locking. As it already has been deprecated for years, with its removal long overdue, limit it to !SMP and !PREEMPT. Furthermore, the last legitimate use of the ioctl to be reported relates to the ARM architecture in 2008.[1] Attempts to resolve this issue turned out unsuccessful so far.[2] Other usages have only been reported as hear-say. If there are any legitiate and necessary use-cases remaining, please speak out before the end of the grace period until 2.6.3{5,6}(-rc1). 2010-02-26PM / Hibernate: Really deprecate deprecated user ioctlsJiri Slaby

2010-01-17feature-removal-schedule: Add v4l1 drivers obsoleted by gspca sub driversHans de Goede
This patch adds the ov511, quickcam_messenger, w9968cf, stv680 and ovcamchip v4l1 drivers to the feature removal schedule as the devices they support are now all also supported by v4l2 gspca sub drivers. This patch also adds the v4l2 vc0301 driver for removal as it duplicates functionality of the gspca_zc3xx driver, zc0301 only supports 2 USB-ID's (because it only supports a limited set of sensors) wich are also supported by the gspca_zc3xx driver (which supports 53 USB-ID's in total). 2009-12-14x86: Remove usedac in feature-removal-schedule.txtFUJITA Tomonori
The reason of removal, "replaced by allowdac and no dac combination" is incorrect. There is no way to do the same thing with "allowdac" and "nodac" combination. The usedac option enables us to stop via_no_dac() setting forbid_dac to 1. That is, someone who uses VIA bridges can use DAC with this option even if some of VIA bridges seem to be broken about DAC. 2009-09-09wireless: mark prism54 as deprecated and mark for removalLuis R. Rodriguez
The preferred module is p54pci which also supports FullMAC PCI / Cardbus devices. We schedule removal for 2.6.34. Reason to remove this is no one really is testing prism54 anymore, and while it works p54pci provides support for the same hardware. It should be noted I have been told some FullMAC devices may not have worked with the SoftMAC driver but to date we have yet to recieve a single bug report regarding this. 2009-08-10sound: make OSS device number claiming optional and schedule its removalTejun Heo
If any OSS support is enabled, regardless of built-in or module, sound_core claims full OSS major number (that is, the old 0-255 region) to trap open attempts and request sound modules using custom module aliases. This feature is redundant as chrdev already has such mechanism. This preemptive claiming prevents alternative OSS implementation. The custom module aliases are scheduled to be removed and the previous patch made soundcore emit the standard chrdev aliases too to help transition. This patch schedule the feature for removal in a year and makes it optional so that developers and distros can try new things in the meantime without rebuilding the kernel. The pre-claiming can be turned off by using SOUND_OSS_CORE_PRECLAIM and/or kernel parameter soundcore.preclaim_oss. As this allows sound minors to be individually grabbed by other users, this patch updates sound_insert_unit() such that if registering individual device region fails, it tries the next available slot. For details on removal plan, please read the entry added by this patch in feature-removal-schedule.txt . 2009-07-06[CPUFREQ] Mark policy_rwsem as going static in cpufreq.c wont be exportedvenkatesh.pallipadi@intel.com
lock_policy_rwsem_* and unlock_policy_rwsem_* routines in cpufreq.c are currently exported to drivers. Improper use of those locks can result in deadlocks and it is better to keep the locks localized. Two previous in-kernel users of these interfaces (ondemand and conservative), do not use this interfaces any more. Schedule them for removal.
