2009-08-05net: implement a SO_DOMAIN getsockoptionJan Engelhardt
This sockopt goes in line with SO_TYPE and SO_PROTOCOL. It makes it possible for userspace programs to pass around file descriptors — I am referring to arguments-to-functions, but it may even work for the fd passing over UNIX sockets — without needing to also pass the auxiliary information (PF_INET6/IPPROTO_TCP). 2009-08-05net: implement a SO_PROTOCOL getsockoptionJan Engelhardt
Similar to SO_TYPE returning the socket type, SO_PROTOCOL allows to retrieve the protocol used with a given socket. I am not quite sure why we have that-many copies of socket.h, and why the values are not the same on all arches either, but for where hex numbers dominate, I use 0x1029 for SO_PROTOCOL as that seems to be the next free unused number across a bunch of operating systems, or so Google results make me want to believe. SO_PROTOCOL for others just uses the next free Linux number, 38. Signed-off-by: Jan Engelhardt <jengelh@medozas.de> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-07-27mm: Pass virtual address to [__]p{te,ud,md}_free_tlb()Benjamin Herrenschmidt
mm: Pass virtual address to [__]p{te,ud,md}_free_tlb() Upcoming paches to support the new 64-bit "BookE" powerpc architecture will need to have the virtual address corresponding to PTE page when freeing it, due to the way the HW table walker works. Basically, the TLB can be loaded with "large" pages that cover the whole virtual space (well, sort-of, half of it actually) represented by a PTE page, and which contain an "indirect" bit indicating that this TLB entry RPN points to an array of PTEs from which the TLB can then create direct entries. Thus, in order to invalidate those when PTE pages are deleted, we need the virtual address to pass to tlbilx or tlbivax instructions. The old trick of sticking it somewhere in the PTE page struct page sucks too much, the address is almost readily available in all call sites and almost everybody implemets these as macros, so we may as well add the argument everywhere. I added it to the pmd and pud variants for consistency. 2009-07-10sched: INIT_PREEMPT_COUNTPeter Zijlstra
Pull the initial preempt_count value into a single definition site. Maintainers for: alpha, ia64 and m68k, please have a look, your arch code is funny. The header magic is a bit odd, but similar to the KERNEL_DS one, CPP waits with expanding these macros until the INIT_THREAD_INFO macro itself is expanded, which is in arch/*/kernel/init_task.c where we've already included sched.h so we're good. 2009-06-13FRV: Fix interaction with new generic header stuffDavid Howells
Fix interaction with new generic header stuff as added by: commit 6103ec56c65c33774c7c38652c8204120c3c7519 Author: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Date: Wed May 13 22:56:27 2009 +0000 asm-generic: add generic ABI headers The problem is that asm/signal.h has been made to include asm-generic/signal.h, but the redundant stuff from asm/signal.h has not been discarded, leading to multiple redefinitions. 2009-06-12asm-generic: merge branch 'master' of torvalds/linux-2.6Arnd Bergmann
Fixes a merge conflict against the x86 tree caused by a fix to atomic.h which I renamed to atomic_long.h. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>
2009-06-11asm-generic: make pci.h usable directlyArnd Bergmann
Some generic code is using the horribly misnamed PCI_DMA_BUS_IS_PHYS from asm/pci.h. This makes sure that an architecture without PCI support does not have to define this itself but can rely on the asm-generic version. 2009-06-11asm-generic: rename page.h and uaccess.hArnd Bergmann
The current asm-generic/page.h only contains the get_order function, and asm-generic/uaccess.h only implements unaligned accesses. This renames the file to getorder.h and uaccess-unaligned.h to make room for new page.h and uaccess.h file that will be usable by all simple (e.g. nommu) architectures. 2009-06-11asm-generic: rename atomic.h to atomic-long.hArnd Bergmann
The existing asm-generic/atomic.h only defines the atomic_long type. This renames it to atomic-long.h so we have a place to add a truly generic atomic.h that can be used on all non-SMP systems. 2009-06-11asm-generic: introduce asm/bitsperlong.hArnd Bergmann
This provides a reliable way for asm-generic/types.h and other files to find out if it is running on a 32 or 64 bit platform. We cannot use CONFIG_64BIT for this in headers that are included from user space because CONFIG symbols are not available there. We also cannot do it inside of asm/types.h because some headers need the word size but cannot include types.h. The solution is to introduce a new header <asm/bitsperlong.h> that defines both __BITS_PER_LONG for user space and BITS_PER_LONG for usage in the kernel. The asm-generic version falls back to 32 bit unless the architecture overrides it, which I did for all 64 bit platforms. 2009-06-11asm-generic: rename termios.h, signal.h and mman.hArnd Bergmann
The existing asm-generic versions are incomplete and included by some architectures. New architectures should be able to use a generic version, so rename the existing files and change all users, which lets us add the new files. 2009-06-11FRV: Implement TIF_NOTIFY_RESUMEDavid Howells
Implement the TIF_NOTIFY_RESUME thread flag, making it call do_notify_resume() which then clears it. This will be made use of later by tracehooks in the new-style ptrace implementation Also discard TIF_IRET as that's not used by FRV. 2009-04-27FRV: Stop gcc from generating uninitialised variable warnings after BUG()David Howells
Stop gcc from generating uninitialised variable warnings after BUG(). The problem is that FRV's call into its gdbstub appears to return (if the function is marked noreturn, then the compiler is under no obligation to pass it a return address, and so GDB won't know where the bug happened). To get around this, we make the do...while wrapper in _debug_bug_trap() an endless loop from which there's no escape.
