2008-07-20simserial: Fix up for ldisc changesAlan Cox
Noted by Tony Luck although I've done the patches differently and also removed some other bogus oddments. Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2008-04-30tty: The big operations reworkAlan Cox
- Operations are now a shared const function block as with most other Linux objects - Introduce wrappers for some optional functions to get consistent behaviour - Wrap put_char which used to be patched by the tty layer - Document which functions are needed/optional - Make put_char report success/fail - Cache the driver->ops pointer in the tty as tty->ops - Remove various surplus lock calls we no longer need - Remove proc_write method as noted by Alexey Dobriyan - Introduce some missing sanity checks where certain driver/ldisc combinations would oops as they didn't check needed methods were present [akpm@linux-foundation.org: fix fs/compat_ioctl.c build] [akpm@linux-foundation.org: fix isicom] [akpm@linux-foundation.org: fix arch/ia64/hp/sim/simserial.c build] [akpm@linux-foundation.org: fix kgdb] Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@redhat.com> Acked-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de> Cc: Jason Wessel <jason.wessel@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2008-03-06[IA64] remove remaining __FUNCTION__ occurrencesHarvey Harrison

2007-07-13[IA64] Clean away some code inside some non-existent CONFIG ifdefsTony Luck
Robert P.J. Day has a script that finds places in the code that use non-existent CONFIG variables. It complained of two uses in ia64 specific code: CONFIG_IA64_SDV and CONFIG_KDB (both used in the hp/sim code). Signed-off-by: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com>

2006-12-05WorkQueue: Fix up arch-specific work items where possibleDavid Howells
Fix up arch-specific work items where possible to use the new work_struct and delayed_work structs. Three places that enqueue bits of their stack and then return have been marked with #error as this is not permitted. Signed-Off-By: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com>

2006-10-09IRQ: Use the new typedef for interrupt handler function pointersDavid Howells
Use the new typedef for interrupt handler function pointers rather than actually spelling out the full thing each time. This was scripted with the following small shell script: #!/bin/sh egrep -nHrl -e 'irqreturn_t[ ]*[(][*]' $* | while read i do echo $i perl -pi -e 's/irqreturn_t\s*[(]\s*[*]\s*([_a-zA-Z0-9]*)\s*[)]\s*[(]\s*int\s*,\s*void\s*[*]\s*[)]/irq_handler_t \1/g' $i || exit $? done Signed-Off-By: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com>

2006-10-02[PATCH] const struct tty_operationsJeff Dike
As part of an SMP cleanliness pass over UML, I consted a bunch of structures in order to not have to document their locking. One of these structures was a struct tty_operations. In order to const it in UML without introducing compiler complaints, the declaration of tty_set_operations needs to be changed, and then all of its callers need to be fixed. This patch declares all struct tty_operations in the tree as const. In all cases, they are static and used only as input to tty_set_operations. As an extra check, I ran an i386 allyesconfig build which produced no extra warnings. 53 drivers are affected. I checked the history of a bunch of them, and in most cases, there have been only a handful of maintenance changes in the last six months. serial_core.c was the busiest one that I looked at. 2006-03-23[PATCH] kill _INLINE_Adrian Bunk

2005-07-11[IA64] assign_irq_vector() should not panicKenji Kaneshige
Current assign_irq_vector() will panic if interrupt vectors is running out. But I think how to handle the case of lack of interrupt vectors should be handled by the caller of this function. For example, some PCI devices can raise the interrupt signal via both MSI and I/O APIC. So even if the driver for these device fails to allocate a vector for MSI, the driver still has a chance to use I/O APIC based interrupt. But currently there is no chance for these driver to use I/O APIC based interrupt because kernel will panic when assign_irq_vector() fails to allocate interrupt vector. The following patch changes assign_irq_vector() for ia64 to return -ENOSPC on error instead of panic (as i386 and x86_64 versions do). 2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
