2006-03-31[PATCH] unexport get_wchanAdrian Bunk
The only user of get_wchan is the proc fs - and proc can't be built modular. Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@stusta.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-03-24[PATCH] kill include/linux/platform.h, default_idle() cleanupAdrian Bunk
include/linux/platform.h contained nothing that was actually used except the default_idle() prototype, and is therefore removed by this patch. This patch does the following with the platform specific default_idle() functions on different architectures: - remove the unused function: - parisc - sparc64 - make the needlessly global function static: - arm - h8300 - m68k - m68knommu - s390 - v850 - x86_64 - add a prototype in asm/system.h: - cris - i386 - ia64 Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@stusta.de> Acked-by: Patrick Mochel <mochel@digitalimplant.org> Acked-by: Kyle McMartin <kyle@parisc-linux.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-03-22[PATCH] multiple exports of strpbrkAndrew Morton
Sam's tree includes a new check, which found that we're exporting strpbrk() multiple times. It seems that the convention is that this is exported from the arch files, so reove the lib/string.c export. 2006-03-20[PATCH] add EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL_FUTURE()Greg Kroah-Hartman
This patch adds the ability to mark symbols that will be changed in the future, so that kernel modules that don't include MODULE_LICENSE("GPL") and use the symbols, will be flagged and printed out to the system log. Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>

2006-01-10[PATCH] m68knommu: fix ram length of m5208evb boardGreg Ungerer
Adjust length of M5208EVB ram define. It should size up to 32MB after adding in the dBUG reserved 128k. Problem pointed out be Milton Miller <miltonm@bga.com>. Signed-off-by: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-01-10[PATCH] m68knommu: fix a5 reg corruption in signal handlersGreg Ungerer
This is a patch adapted from a posting by Andrea Tarani which was pointed out to me by Bernardo Innocenti. Thanks to both of them for their help and patience. The original posting is here: http://mailman.uclinux.org/pipermail/uclinux-dev/2005-July/033543.html The problem first manifest itself as busybox ping terminating with an "Illegal instruction". I reduced this to a test case and found that variable size arrays allocated on the stack could lead to stacks not aligned on 32 bit boundaries. For the Coldfire this proved fatal. Having been pointed out this patch by Bernardo, I applied it and it fixed the first test case. I then went back to busybox's ping. This still failed with "Illegal instruction", but in a different way. Before it depended on the size allocated for the ping buffer, now it happened every time. I also found it depended on optimisation level (gcc-3.4.0) -Os was okay but not -O2. After a lot of looking, it turned out that register a5 was being corrupted by the signal handler (after applying the patch). I re-worked the patch a bit to save/restore a5 and now all seems well. 2006-01-10[PATCH] dump_thread() cleanupakpm@osdl.org
) From: Adrian Bunk <bunk@stusta.de> - create one common dump_thread() prototype in kernel.h - dump_thread() is only used in fs/binfmt_aout.c and can therefore be removed on all architectures where CONFIG_BINFMT_AOUT is not available Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@stusta.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-01-06[PATCH] m68knommu: enable_irq/disable_irqChristoph Hellwig
mach_enable_irq/mach_disable_irq are never actually set, so let's remove them. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Cc: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-11-07[PATCH] m68knommu: move some platform irq support out of irq.hGreg Ungerer
Move some of the m68knommu platform specific irq core support to its own header, irqnode.h. Having it in asm-m68knommu/irq.h causes some build pain, since it is included in a number of common code places (and not all the required definitions will be included at these places). 2005-11-07[PATCH] m68knommu: align param section and add 5208EVB linker supportGreg Ungerer
Align the param section. It can end up starting on an unalingned boundary depending on the size of ksymtab_strings. If it is unaligned things like modules will fail to load with unaligned access traps. Add linker scipt support for the M5208EVB board. Patch originally from Matt Waddel. 2005-11-07[PATCH] m68knommu: add ColdFire 5208 setup supportGreg Ungerer
Add setup support for the new Freescale 5208 ColdFire processor. (Also fixed a little typo in there, "UNKOWN" -> "UNKNOWN"). Patch originally from Matt Waddel (from code originally written by Mike Lavender). Signed-off-by: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-11-07[PATCH] consolidate sys_ptrace()Christoph Hellwig
The sys_ptrace boilerplate code (everything outside the big switch statement for the arch-specific requests) is shared by most architectures. This patch moves it to kernel/ptrace.c and leaves the arch-specific code as arch_ptrace. Some architectures have a too different ptrace so we have to exclude them. They continue to keep their implementations. For sh64 I had to add a sh64_ptrace wrapper because it does some initialization on the first call. For um I removed an ifdefed SUBARCH_PTRACE_SPECIAL block, but SUBARCH_PTRACE_SPECIAL isn't defined anywhere in the tree. 2005-09-07[PATCH] NTP: ntp-helper functionsjohn stultz
This patch cleans up a commonly repeated set of changes to the NTP state variables by adding two helper inline functions: ntp_clear(): Clears the ntp state variables ntp_synced(): Returns 1 if the system is synced with a time server. This was compile tested for alpha, arm, i386, x86-64, ppc64, s390, sparc, sparc64. 2005-08-29[PATCH] convert signal handling of NODEFER to act like other Unix boxes.Steven Rostedt
It has been reported that the way Linux handles NODEFER for signals is not consistent with the way other Unix boxes handle it. I've written a program to test the behavior of how this flag affects signals and had several reports from people who ran this on various Unix boxes, confirming that Linux seems to be unique on the way this is handled. The way NODEFER affects signals on other Unix boxes is as follows: 1) If NODEFER is set, other signals in sa_mask are still blocked. 2) If NODEFER is set and the signal is in sa_mask, then the signal is still blocked. (Note: this is the behavior of all tested but Linux _and_ NetBSD 2.0 *). The way NODEFER affects signals on Linux: 1) If NODEFER is set, other signals are _not_ blocked regardless of sa_mask (Even NetBSD doesn't do this). 2) If NODEFER is set and the signal is in sa_mask, then the signal being handled is not blocked. The patch converts signal handling in all current Linux architectures to the way most Unix boxes work. Unix boxes that were tested: DU4, AIX 5.2, Irix 6.5, NetBSD 2.0, SFU 3.5 on WinXP, AIX 5.3, Mac OSX, and of course Linux 2.6.13-rcX. * NetBSD was the only other Unix to behave like Linux on point #2. The main concern was brought up by point #1 which even NetBSD isn't like Linux. So with this patch, we leave NetBSD as the lonely one that behaves differently here with #2. 2005-07-26[PATCH] Don't export machine_restart, machine_halt, or machine_power_off.Eric W. Biederman
machine_restart, machine_halt and machine_power_off are machine specific hooks deep into the reboot logic, that modules have no business messing with. Usually code should be calling kernel_restart, kernel_halt, kernel_power_off, or emergency_restart. So don't export machine_restart, machine_halt, and machine_power_off so we can catch buggy users. 2005-06-03[PATCH] m68knommu: fix scheduling and race problems in idle loopGreg Ungerer
Re-work the m68knommu specific idle code according to suggestions from Nick Piggin <nickpiggin@yahoo.com.au>. A couple of rules that we need to follow: 1. Preempt should now disabled over idle routines. Should only be enabled to call schedule() then disabled again. 3. When cpu_idle finds (need_resched() == 'true'), it should call schedule(). It should not call schedule() otherwise. Also fix interrupt locking around the need_resched() and cpu stop state so that there is no race condition. 2005-05-01[PATCH] convert that currently tests _NSIG directly to use valid_signal()Jesper Juhl

2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
