I would suggest to remove the "experimental" status from Kdump.
Kdump is now in the kernel since a long time and used by Enterprise
distributions. I don't think that "experimental" is true any more.

* Introduce a new PER_CPU macro called "EARLY_PER_CPU". This is
used by some per_cpu variables that are initialized and accessed
before there are per_cpu areas allocated.
["Early" in respect to per_cpu variables is "earlier than the per_cpu
areas have been setup".]
This patchset adds these new macros:
DEFINE_EARLY_PER_CPU(_type, _name, _initvalue)
EXPORT_EARLY_PER_CPU_SYMBOL(_name)
DECLARE_EARLY_PER_CPU(_type, _name)
early_per_cpu_ptr(_name)
early_per_cpu_map(_name, _idx)
early_per_cpu(_name, _cpu)
The DEFINE macro defines the per_cpu variable as well as the early
map and pointer. It also initializes the per_cpu variable and map
elements to "_initvalue". The early_* macros provide access to
the initial map (usually setup during system init) and the early
pointer. This pointer is initialized to point to the early map
but is then NULL'ed when the actual per_cpu areas are setup. After
that the per_cpu variable is the correct access to the variable.
The early_per_cpu() macro is not very efficient but does show how to
access the variable if you have a function that can be called both
"early" and "late". It tests the early ptr to be NULL, and if not
then it's still valid. Otherwise, the per_cpu variable is used
instead:

A better method is to actually check the pointer manually. In the

* Add a flag "arch_provides_topology_pointers" that indicates pointers
to topology cpumask_t maps are available. Otherwise, use the function
returning the cpumask_t value. This is useful if cpumask_t set size
is very large to avoid copying data on to/off of the stack.
* The coverage of CONFIG_DEBUG_PER_CPU_MAPS has been increased while
the non-debug case has been optimized a bit.
* Remove an unreferenced compiler warning in drivers/base/topology.c
* Clean up #ifdef in setup.c

* Increase the limit of NR_CPUS to 4096 and introduce a boolean
called "MAXSMP" which when set (e.g. "allyesconfig"), will set
NR_CPUS = 4096 and NODES_SHIFT = 9 (512).
* Changed max setting for NODES_SHIFT from 15 to 9 to accurately
reflect the real limit.

This patch updates the kvm host code to use the pvclock structs
and functions, thereby making it compatible with Xen.
The patch also fixes an initialization bug: on SMP systems the
per-cpu has two different locations early at boot and after CPU
bringup. kvmclock must take that in account when registering the
physical address within the host.

This patch adds structs for the paravirt clocksource ABI
used by both xen and kvm (pvclock-abi.h).
It also adds some helper functions to read system time and
wall clock time from a paravirtual clocksource (pvclock.[ch]).
They are based on the xen code. They are enabled using
CONFIG_PARAVIRT_CLOCK.
Subsequent patches of this series will put the code in use.

Previously, one would have to specifically choose CONFIG_OLPC and
CONFIG_PCI_GOOLPC in order to enable PCI_OLPC. That doesn't really work
for distro kernels, so this patch allows one to choose CONFIG_OLPC and
CONFIG_PCI_GOANY in order to build in OLPC support in a generic kernel (as
requested by Robert Millan).
This also moves GOOLPC before GOANY in the menuconfig list.
Finally, make pci_access_init return early if we detect OLPC hardware.
There's no need to continue probing stuff, and pci_pcbios_init
specifically trashes our settings (we didn't run into that before because
PCI_GOANY wasn't supported).

init/Kconfig contains a list of configs that are searched
for if 'make *config' are used with no .config present.
Extend this list to look at the config identified by
ARCH_DEFCONFIG.
With this change we now try the defconfig targets last.
This fixes a regression reported

Loop through mtrr chunk_size and gran_size from 1M to 2G to find out
the optimal value so user does not need to add mtrr_chunk_size and
mtrr_gran_size to the kernel command line.
If optimal value is not found, print out all list to help select less
optimal value.
Add mtrr_spare_reg_nr= so user could set 2 instead of 1, if the card
need more entries.

some BIOS like to use continus MTRR layout, and X driver can not add
WB entries for graphical cards when 4g or more RAM installed.
the patch will change MTRR to discrete.
mtrr_chunk_size= could be used to have smaller continuous block to hold holes.
default is 256m, could be set according to size of graphics card memory.
mtrr_gran_size= could be used to send smallest mtrr block to avoid run out of MTRRs

* Change the range of NR_CPUS from 2-255 to 2-4096 and change the
range of MAX_NUMNODES (NODES_SHIFT) from 1-32768 to 1-512.
* Alter comment about how much each increment of NR_CPUS consumes.
(This was found by configuring for 256 cpus and then 512 cpus
and dividing the difference by 256.)

In 2.6.23, if you unpacked a kernel source tarball and then
ran "make menuconfig" you'd be presented with this message:
# using defaults found in arch/i386/defconfig
and the default options would be set.
The same thing in 2.6.24 does not give you any "using defaults" message, and
the default config options within menuconfig are rather blank (e.g. no PCI
support). You can work around this by explicitly running "make defconfig"
before menuconfig, but it would be nice to have the behaviour the way it was
for 2.6.23 (and the way it still is for other archs).
Fixed by adding a x86 specific defconfig list to Kconfig.

the 'reboot_force' flag is a notion that non-PC subarchitectures do
not have.
also, unify the X86_BIOS_REBOOT option between 32-bit and 64-bit
and get rid of a few unnecessary Kconfig and Makefile complications
that way.

This adds support for OLPC XO hardware. Open Firmware on XOs don't contain
the VSA, so it is necessary to emulate the PCI BARs in the kernel. This also
adds functionality for running EC commands, and a CONFIG_OLPC.
A number of OLPC drivers depend upon CONFIG_OLPC.
olpc_ec_timeout is a hack to work around Embedded Controller bugs.

iommu_is_span_boundary in lib/iommu-helper.c was exported for PARISC IOMMUs
(commit 3715863aa142c4f4c5208f5f3e5e9bac06006d2f). SWIOTLB can use it instead
of the homegrown function.

Turn CONFIG_DMI into a selectable option if EMBEDDED is defined, in
order to be able to remove the DMI table scanning code if it's not
needed, and then reduce the kernel code size.
With CONFIG_DMI (i.e before) :

This is the guest part of kvm clock implementation
It does not do tsc-only timing, as tsc can have deltas
between cpus, and it did not seem worthy to me to keep
adjusting them.
We do use it, however, for fine-grained adjustment.
Other than that, time comes from the host.
