2009-03-14netxen: add receive side scaling (rss) supportDhananjay Phadke
This patch enables the load balancing capability of firmware and hardware to spray traffic into different cpus through separate rx msix interrupts. The feature is being enabled for NX3031, NX2031 (old) will be enabled later. This depends on msi-x and compatibility with msi and legacy is maintained by enabling single rx ring. 2009-03-14netxen: sanitize variable namesDhananjay Phadke
o remove max_ prefix from ring sizes, since they don't really represent max possible sizes. o cleanup naming of rx ring types (normal, jumbo, lro). o simplify logic to choose rx ring size, gig ports get half rx ring of 10 gig ports. Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-03-14netxen: add suspend resume supportDhananjay Phadke

2009-03-14netxen: remove old flash check.Dhananjay Phadke
Remove flash size check which made sense only for ancient boards with 1MB flash. The check is based on values read from specific locations and fails with firmware size changes. This prevents driver from getting right mac addresses. Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-03-10netxen: annotate board_config and board_typeDhananjay Phadke
Remove huge board config structure from each instance, read only necessary fields from flash. Replace board_type with port_type (1G/10G), there's another board_type field describing card type (SFP/XFP/CX4). Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-03-10netxen: cleanup superfluous multi-context codeDhananjay Phadke

2009-02-08netxen: fix msi-x interrupt handlingDhananjay Phadke
o Cut down msi-x vectors from 8 to 1 since only one is used for now. o Use separate handler for msi-x, that doesn't unnecessarily scrub msi status register. Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-01-29netxen: revert jumbo ringsizeDhananjay Phadke
Reducing jumbo ring size below 1024 reduces throughput for old firmwares (3.4.216 and older) running on older (NX2031) chip, so restore it back to 1024. This was reduced in commit 32ec803348b4d5f1353e1d7feae30880b8b3e342 ("netxen: reduce memory footprint"). Raising jumbo ring size from 512 to 1024, adds ~4MB per port, but there's still big saving because of original patch (~20MB per port). Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2008-08-14netxen: fix mac addr setupDhananjay Phadke
For NX3031 mac addr should be read from firmware. mac addr in flash is still valid, but can be overridden by firmware if running in virtualization environment. For old revisions, mac addr is retrieved directly from flash. Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jgarzik@redhat.com>
2008-08-07netxen: fix promisc mode, mtu settingDhananjay Phadke
For NX3031, multicast filtering, promisc mode, and max frame size setting is handled by firmware, driver needs to send request to enable/disable it. For old chip revisions / firmware, driver still sets it directly. Added function pointer to set mtu according to chip revision. Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jgarzik@redhat.com>

2008-07-22netxen: cut-through rx changesDhananjay Phadke
NX3031 supports cut-through operation where ingress packets are directly dma'ed into host buffers to reduce latency. This requires larger dma buffers (2kb) and different alignemnt. The buffer posting logic is changed a bit. The free rx buffers are maintained in linked list, since the received reference handles can be out of order. However rx descriptors are still posted sequentially, indexed by producer. Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jgarzik@redhat.com>
2008-07-22netxen: mtu, mac, link status changesDhananjay Phadke
MAC addr, multicast filters, mtu are set through firmware commands in firmware v4.0.0+ because of virtualization of physical ports. Link status is also read from registers allocated by firmware for each virtual port. Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jgarzik@redhat.com>
2008-07-22netxen: add netxen_nic_ctx.cDhananjay Phadke

2008-03-25netxen: fix rx dropped statsDhananjay Phadke
Don't count rx dropped packets based on return value of netif_receive_skb(), which is misleading. Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Tested-by: Vernon Mauery <mauery@us.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org>
2008-03-25netxen: remove low level tx lockDhananjay Phadke
o eliminate tx lock in netxen adapter struct, instead pound on netdev tx lock appropriately. o remove old "concurrent transmit" code that unnecessarily drops and reacquires tx lock in hard_xmit_frame(), this is already serialized the netdev xmit lock. o reduce scope of tx lock in tx cleanup. tx cleanup operates on different section of the ring than transmitting cpus and is guarded by producer and consumer indices. This fixes a race caused by rx softirq preemption on realtime kernels. Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Tested-by: Vernon Mauery <mauery@us.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org>
2008-03-25netxen: napi and irq cleanupDhananjay Phadke
o separate and simpler irq handler for msi interrupts, avoids few checks than legacy mode. o avoid redudant tx_has_work() and rx_has_work() checks in interrupt and napi, which can uncork irq based on racy (lockless) access to tx and rx ring indices. If we get interrupt, there's sufficient reason to schedule napi. o replenish rx ring more often, remove self-imposed threshold rcv_free that prevents posting rx desc to card. This improves performance in low memory. Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Tested-by: Vernon Mauery <mauery@us.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org>
2008-03-25netxen: improve msi supportDhananjay Phadke
Recent netxen firmware has new scheme of generating MSI interrupts, it raises interrupt and blocks itself, waiting for driver to unmask. This reduces chance of spurious interrupts. The driver will be able to deal with older firmware as well. Signed-off-by: Dhananjay Phadke <dhananjay@netxen.com> Tested-by: Vernon Mauery <mauery@us.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org>
