Now that device_create() has been audited, rename things back to the original call to be sane. Cc: Jeff Garzik <jgarzik@pobox.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2008-09-15mac80211 hwsim: make radio list dynamicJohannes Berg
This paves the way for dynamic radio additions while the module is loaded. Also restrict the number of radios to 100 because creating that many already takes forever. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2008-09-15mac80211: fix virtual interfaces vs. injectionJohannes Berg
Currently, virtual interface pointers passed to drivers might be from monitor interfaces and as such completely uninitialised because we do not tell the driver about monitor interfaces when those are created. Instead of passing them, we should therefore indicate to the driver that there is no information; do that by passing a NULL value and adjust drivers to cope with it. As a result, some mac80211 API functions also need to cope with a NULL vif pointer so drivers can still call them unconditionally. Also, when injecting frames we really don't want to pass NULL all the time, if we know we are the source address of a frame and have a local interface for that address, we can to use that interface. This also helps with processing the frame correctly for that interface which will help the 802.11w implementation. It's not entirely correct for VLANs or WDS interfaces because there the MAC address isn't unique, but it's already a lot better than what we do now. Finally, when injecting without a matching local interface, don't assign sequence numbers at all. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: John W. 2008-09-15mac80211 hwsim: verify sta pointersJohannes Berg
In analogy with the previous patch to make mac80211-hwsim verify that the virtual interface pointers are correct, this makes it very that it knows about all station structs. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2008-09-15mac80211: share STA information with driverJohannes Berg
This patch changes mac80211 to share some more data about stations with drivers. Should help iwlwifi and ath9k when they get around to updating, and might also help with implementing rate control algorithms without internals. 2008-09-15mac80211 hwsim: verify vif pointersJohannes Berg
mac80211-hwsim is a debugging tool for mac80211, and as such it can very well verify that mac80211 isn't passing junk to drivers, especially the vif pointer is prone to this because for vlan interfaces the AP interface pointer needs to be passed. This makes mac80211-hwsim add a magic cookie to the private vif area and verify it whenever an operation is called that gets a vif pointer. 2008-09-15mac80211: use nl80211 interface typesJohannes Berg
There's really no reason for mac80211 to be using its own interface type defines. Use the nl80211 types and simplify the configuration code a bit: there's no need to translate them any more now. 2008-09-05cfg80211: keep track of supported interface modesLuis R. Rodriguez
It is obviously good for userspace to know up front which interface modes a given piece of hardware might support (even if adding such an interface might fail later because of concurrency issues), so let's make cfg80211 aware of that. For good measure, disallow adding interfaces in all other modes so drivers don't forget to announce support for one mode when they add it. 2008-08-29mac80211_hwsim: Add minimal IEEE 802.11n supportJouni Malinen
Set some semi-random values for HT and add more queues to allow IEEE 802.11n association to be tested with mac80211_hwsim. This with the latest hostapd git tree version can complete a simulated 802.11n association successfully (with mac80211 client MLME). 2008-07-21mac80211_hwsim.c: fix: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference ↵Ian Schram
at 0000000000000370 I was looking at this out of interest, but I'm in no way familiar with the code. Looks to me that the error handling code in mac80211_hwsim is awkward. Which leads to it calling ieee80211_unregister_hw even when ieee80211_register_hw failed. The function has a for loop where it generates all simulated radios. when something fails, the error handling will call mac80211_hwsim_free which frees all simulated radios who's pointer isn't zero. However the information stored is insufficient to determine whether or not the call to ieee80211_register_hw succeeded or not for a specific radio. The included patch makes init_mac80211_hwsim clean up the current simulated radio, and then calls into mac80211_hwsim_free to clean up all the radios that did succeed. This however doesn't explain why the rate control registration failed.. build tested this, but had some problems reproducing the original problem. 2008-06-14mac80211_hwsim: 802.11 radio simulator for mac80211Jouni Malinen
mac80211_hwsim is a Linux kernel module that can be used to simulate arbitrary number of IEEE 802.11 radios for mac80211 on a single device. It can be used to test most of the mac80211 functionality and user space tools (e.g., hostapd and wpa_supplicant) in a way that matches very closely with the normal case of using real WLAN hardware. From the mac80211 view point, mac80211_hwsim is yet another hardware driver, i.e., no changes to mac80211 are needed to use this testing tool.
