2009-09-01wireless: convert drivers to netdev_tx_tStephen Hemminger
Mostly just simple conversions: * ray_cs had bogus return of NET_TX_LOCKED but driver was not using NETIF_F_LLTX * hostap and ipw2x00 had some code that returned value from a called function that also had to change to return netdev_tx_t Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@vyatta.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-07-05net: convert remaining non-symbolic return values in ndo_start_xmit() functionsPatrick McHardy
This patch converts the remaining occurences of raw return values to their symbolic counterparts in ndo_start_xmit() functions that were missed by the previous automatic conversion. Additionally code that assumed the symbolic value of NETDEV_TX_OK to be zero is changed to explicitly use NETDEV_TX_OK. Signed-off-by: Patrick McHardy <kaber@trash.net> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-06-13net: use symbolic values for ndo_start_xmit() return codesPatrick McHardy
Convert magic values 1 and -1 to NETDEV_TX_BUSY and NETDEV_TX_LOCKED respectively. 0 (NETDEV_TX_OK) is not changed to keep the noise down, except in very few cases where its in direct proximity to one of the other values. 2008-11-12netdevice: safe convert to netdev_priv() #part-4Wang Chen
We have some reasons to kill netdev->priv: 1. netdev->priv is equal to netdev_priv(). 2. netdev_priv() wraps the calculation of netdev->priv's offset, obviously netdev_priv() is more flexible than netdev->priv. But we cann't kill netdev->priv, because so many drivers reference to it directly. This patch is a safe convert for netdev->priv to netdev_priv(netdev). Since all of the netdev->priv is only for read. But it is too big to be sent in one mail. I split it to 4 parts and make every part smaller than 100,000 bytes, which is max size allowed by vger. 2008-11-03drivers/net: Kill now superfluous ->last_rx stores.David S. Miller
The generic packet receive code takes care of setting netdev->last_rx when necessary, for the sake of the bonding ARP monitor. Drivers need not do it any more. Some cases had to be skipped over because the drivers were making use of the ->last_rx value themselves. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-10-27net: convert print_mac to %pMJohannes Berg
This converts pretty much everything to print_mac. There were a few things that had conflicts which I have just dropped for now, no harm done. I've built an allyesconfig with this and looked at the files that weren't built very carefully, but it's a huge patch. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: David S. 2008-10-13net: Rationalise email address: Network Specific PartsAlan Cox
Clean up the various different email addresses of mine listed in the code to a single current and valid address. As Dave says his network merges for 2.6.28 are now done this seems a good point to send them in where they won't risk disrupting real changes. 2008-08-07[netdrvr] Drivers should not set IFF_* flag themselvesWang Chen
Some hardware set promisc when they are requested to set IFF_ALLMULTI flag. It's ok, but if drivers set IFF_PROMISC flag when they set promisc, it will broken upper layer handle for promisc and allmulti. In addition, drivers can use their own hardware programming to make it. So do not allow drivers to set IFF_* flags. This is a general driver fix, so I didn't split it to pieces and send to specific driver maintainers. 2007-10-10[NET]: Nuke SET_MODULE_OWNER macro.Ralf Baechle
It's been a useless no-op for long enough in 2.6 so I figured it's time to remove it. 2007-04-25[SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_copy_from_linear_data{_offset}Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo
To clearly state the intent of copying from linear sk_buffs, _offset being a overly long variant but interesting for the sake of saving some bytes. Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com>
2007-04-25[SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_mac_header()Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo
For the places where we need a pointer to the mac header, it is still legal to touch skb->mac.raw directly if just adding to, subtracting from or setting it to another layer header. This one also converts some more cases to skb_reset_mac_header() that my regex missed as it had no spaces before nor after '=', ugh. 2006-10-05IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlersDavid Howells
Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the Linux kernel. The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path (ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()). Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception handling. Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing. I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers. I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile with minimal configurations. This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy. Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one: struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs); And put the old one back at the end: set_irq_regs(old_regs); Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ(). In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary: - update_process_times(user_mode(regs)); - profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs); + update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs())); + profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING); I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself, except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode(). Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers: (*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in the input_dev struct. (*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs pointer or not. (*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type irq_handler_t. This got left in when the padding bad write patch was added and is actually not needed. This is fixing a merge error way back when. - Wavelan can also use the stack based buffer trick if you want Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
