2008-08-23pcmcia: pcmcia_config_loop() improvement by passing vccDominik Brodowski
By passing the current Vcc setting to the pcmcia_config_loop callback function, we can remove pcmcia_get_configuration_info() calls from many drivers. Signed-off-by: Dominik Brodowski <linux@dominikbrodowski.net>
2008-08-23pcmcia: pcmcia_config_loop() default CIS entry handlingDominik Brodowski
Many drivers use the default CIS entry within their pcmcia_config_loop() callback function. Therefore, factor the default CIS entry handling out. Signed-off-by: Dominik Brodowski <linux@dominikbrodowski.net>
2008-08-23pcmcia: pcmcia_config_loop() ConfigIndex unificationDominik Brodowski
Almost all drivers set p_dev->conf.ConfigIndex to cfg->index in the pcmcia_config_loop() callback function. Therefore, factor it out. Signed-off-by: Dominik Brodowski <linux@dominikbrodowski.net>

2008-01-30[SCSI] remove use_sg_chainingJames Bottomley
With the sg table code, every SCSI driver is now either chain capable or broken (or has sg_tablesize set so chaining is never activated), so there's no need to have a check in the host template. Also tidy up the code by moving the scatterlist size defines into the SCSI includes and permit the last entry of the scatterlist pools not to be a power of two. 2007-10-16[SCSI] add use_sg_chaining option to scsi_host_templateFUJITA Tomonori
This option is true if a low-level driver can support sg chaining. This will be removed eventually when all the drivers are converted to support sg chaining. q->max_phys_segments is set to SCSI_MAX_SG_SEGMENTS if false. 2007-02-14[PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau
After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). 2007-01-30[PATCH] sym53c500_cs: remove bogus call fo free_dma()Al Viro
What DMA for 16bit pcmcia card, anyway? We never do request_dma() there and ->dma_channel never changes since initialization to -1. IOW, that call is dead code. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2007-01-11[PATCH] PCMCIA: fix drivers broken by recent cleanupDaniel Ritz
Setting .ConfigBase and .Present is now done at the pcmcia core. The driver cleanup missed a few places where the driver did set .Present to PRESENT_OPTION and later to the values from the CIS. Setting to PRESENT_OPTION now overrides the values from the CIS. So just remove those lines. 2006-12-04[PATCH] pcmcia: conf.ConfigBase and conf.Present consolidationDominik Brodowski
struct pcmcia_device *p_dev->conf.ConfigBase and .Present are set in almost all PCMICA driver right at the beginning, using the same calls but slightly different implementations. Unfiy this in the PCMCIA core. Includes a small bugfix ("drivers/net/pcmcia/xirc2ps_cs.c: remove unused label") from and Signed-off-by Adrian Bunk <bunk@stusta.de> Signed-off-by: Dominik Brodowski <linux@dominikbrodowski.net>
2006-12-04[PATCH] pcmcia: remove manf_id and card_id indirectionDominik Brodowski
As we read out the manufactor and card_id from the PCMCIA device in the PCMCIA core, and device drivers can access those reliably in struct pcmcia_device's fields manf_id and card_id, remove additional (and partly broken) manf_id and card_id detection logic from PCMCIA device drivers. 2006-10-05IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlersDavid Howells
Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the Linux kernel. The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path (ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()). Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception handling. Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing. I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers. I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile with minimal configurations. This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy. Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one: struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs); And put the old one back at the end: set_irq_regs(old_regs); Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ(). In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary: - update_process_times(user_mode(regs)); - profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs); + update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs())); + profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING); I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself, except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode(). Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers: (*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in the input_dev struct. (*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs pointer or not. (*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type irq_handler_t. 2006-03-31[PATCH] pcmcia: use bitfield instead of p_state and stateDominik Brodowski
Instead of the two status values struct pcmcia_device->p_state and state, use descriptive bitfields. Most value-checking in drivers was invalid, as the core now only calls the ->remove() (a.k.a. detach) function in case the attachement _and_ configuration was successful. 2006-03-31[PATCH] pcmcia: add return value to _config() functionsDominik Brodowski
Most of the driver initialization isn't done in the .probe function, but in the internal _config() functions. Make them return a value, so that .probe can properly report whether the probing of the device succeeded or not. Signed-off-by: Dominik Brodowski <linux@dominikbrodowski.net>
2006-03-31[PATCH] pcmcia: remove dev_link_t and client_handle_t indirectionDominik Brodowski

2006-03-31[PATCH] pcmcia: embed dev_link_t into struct pcmcia_deviceDominik Brodowski

2006-03-31[PATCH] pcmcia: remove unneeded Vcc pseudo settingDominik Brodowski

2006-03-31[PATCH] pcmcia: default suspend and resume handlingDominik Brodowski

2006-03-31[PATCH] pcmcia: add pcmcia_disable_deviceDominik Brodowski
pcmcia_disable_device(struct pcmcia_device *p_dev) performs the necessary cleanups upon device or driver removal: it calls the appropriate pcmcia_release_* functions, and can replace (most) of the current drivers' _release() functions. Signed-off-by: Dominik Brodowski <linux@dominikbrodowski.net>
2006-01-06[PATCH] pcmcia: unify attach, EVENT_CARD_INSERTION handlers into one probe ↵Dominik Brodowski
callback Unify the EVENT_CARD_INSERTION and "attach" callbacks to one unified probe() callback. As all in-kernel drivers are changed to this new callback, there will be no temporary backwards-compatibility. Inside a probe() function, each driver _must_ set struct pcmcia_device *p_dev->instance and instance->handle correctly. With these patches, the basic driver interface for 16-bit PCMCIA drivers now has the classic four callbacks known also from other buses: int (*probe) (struct pcmcia_device *dev); void (*remove) (struct pcmcia_device *dev); int (*suspend) (struct pcmcia_device *dev); int (*resume) (struct pcmcia_device *dev); Signed-off-by: Dominik Brodowski <linux@dominikbrodowski.net>
2006-01-06[PATCH] pcmcia: remove dev_list from driversDominik Brodowski

2006-01-06[PATCH] pcmcia: unify detach, REMOVAL_EVENT handlers into one remove callbackDominik Brodowski

2006-01-05[PATCH] pcmcia: new suspend coreDominik Brodowski
Move the suspend and resume methods out of the event handler, and into special functions. Also use these functions for pre- and post-reset, as almost all drivers already do, and the remaining ones can easily be converted. 2005-07-07[PATCH] pcmcia: move event handlerDominik Brodowski

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
