2008-10-16vga16fb: remove open_lock mutexKrzysztof Helt
Remove mutex from the fb_open/fb_release functions as these operations are mutexed at fb layer. Signed-off-by: Krzysztof Helt <krzysztof.h1@wp.pl> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2008-07-24vga16fb: source code improvementKrzysztof Helt
Use constants and functions from the vga.h file. Also add module description. Signed-off-by: Krzysztof Helt <krzysztof.h1@wp.pl> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2008-07-24vga16fb: test virtual screen range before subtraction on unsignedRoel Kluin
dx and dy are u32's, so the test should occur before the subtraction Signed-off-by: Roel Kluin <12o3l@tiscali.nl> Cc: Antonino Daplas <adaplas@pol.net> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

Stop using magic macros for screen_info structure members. Signed-off-by: H. Peter Anvin <hpa@zytor.com>
2007-05-08vga16fb: actually support widths in multiples of 8Antonino A. Daplas
vga16fb does not just support 8-pixel wide rectangles, but rectangles with widths in multiples of 8. Signed-off-by: Antonino Daplas <adaplas@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2007-05-08vga16fb: restrict to blit rectangles with widths of multiples of 8 pixelsAntonino A. Daplas
Advertise that vga16fb can only handle widths that are 8-pixel-multiple only (software limitation). To ensure that a legal font is available, SELECT an 8x16 font in Kconfig. 2007-02-12[PATCH] Video: fb, add true ref_count atomicityJiri Slaby
Some of fb drivers uses atomic_t in bad manner, since there are still some race-prone gaps. Use mutexes to protect open/close code sections with ref_count testing and finally use simple uint. 2006-12-08[PATCH] constify vga16fb.cHelge Deller
- move some static data into the .rodata section - simplify source code for transl_l[] and transl_h[] which makes it more readable Signed-off-by: Helge Deller <deller@gmx.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-07-10[PATCH] vt: Remove VT-specific declarations and definitions from tty.hJon Smirl
MAX_NR_CONSOLES, fg_console, want_console and last_console are more of a function of the VT layer than the TTY one. Moving these to vt.h and vt_kern.h allows all of the framebuffer and VT console drivers to remove their dependency on tty.h. 2006-06-26[PATCH] vga16fb: Update platform codeAntonino A. Daplas
Update platform code to dynamically allocate the platform device Signed-off-by: Antonino Daplas <adaplas@pol.net> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-06-22[PATCH] vgacon: make VGA_MAP_MEM take size, remove extra useBjorn Helgaas
VGA_MAP_MEM translates to ioremap() on some architectures. It makes sense to do this to vga_vram_base, because we're going to access memory between vga_vram_base and vga_vram_end. But it doesn't really make sense to map starting at vga_vram_end, because we aren't going to access memory starting there. On ia64, which always has to be different, ioremapping vga_vram_end gives you something completely incompatible with ioremapped vga_vram_start, so vga_vram_size ends up being nonsense. As a bonus, we often know the size up front, so we can use ioremap() correctly, rather than giving it a zero size. Signed-off-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bjorn.helgaas@hp.com> Cc: "Antonino A. 2006-01-10[PATCH] vga16fb: Trim vga16fb_pan_displayAntonino A. Daplas
Remove error checking and updating from vga16fb_pan_display. This is guaranteed to be done by the core layer. Signed-off-by: Antonino Daplas <adaplas@pol.net> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-11-09[PATCH] vga16fb: Convert vga16fb as a platform deviceAntonino A. Daplas
- Convert vga16fb as a platform device - use framebuffer_alloc() to dynamically allocate resources, and framebuffer_release() to free - remove unneeded casts - trivial whitespace changes Signed-off-by: Antonino Daplas <adaplas@pol.net> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-11-07[PATCH] fbcon/fbdev: Move softcursor out of fbdev to fbconAntonino A. Daplas
According to Jon Smirl, filling in the field fb_cursor with soft_cursor for drivers that do not support hardware cursors is redundant. The soft_cursor function is usable by all drivers because it is just a wrapper around fb_imageblit. And because soft_cursor is an fbcon-specific hook, the file is moved to the console directory. Thus, drivers that do not support hardware cursors can leave the fb_cursor field blank. For drivers that do, they can fill up this field with their own version. The end result is a smaller code size. And if the framebuffer console is not loaded, module/kernel size is also reduced because the soft_cursor module will also not be loaded. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
