2008-02-08[POWERPC] Disable G5 NAP mode during SMU commands on U3Benjamin Herrenschmidt
It appears that with the U3 northbridge, if the processor is in NAP mode the whole time while waiting for an SMU command to complete, then the SMU will fail. It could be related to the weird backward mechanism the SMU uses to get to system memory via i2c to the northbridge that doesn't operate properly when the said bridge is in napping along with the CPU. That is on U3 at least, U4 doesn't seem to be affected. This didn't show before NO_HZ as the timer wakeup was enough to make it work it seems, but that is no longer the case. This fixes it by disabling NAP mode on those machines while an SMU command is in flight. 2007-05-17[POWERPC] Change include protections to ASM_POWERPCBecky Bruce
Change several headers in include/asm-powerpc that currently use some variation of ASM_PPC to use ASM_POWERPC instead. Signed-off-by: Becky Bruce <becky.bruce@freescale.com> Signed-off-by: Kumar Gala <galak@kernel.crashing.org>
2007-05-02[POWERPC] pmac_feature_call checks platformBenjamin Herrenschmidt
This patch makes sure that a caller of pmac_call_feature() won't try to call into ppc_md.feature_call of another platform, which might happen if some powermac drivers are loaded on non-powermac machines. 2006-03-28[PATCH] powerpc: Kill _machine and hard-coded platform numbersBenjamin Herrenschmidt
This removes statically assigned platform numbers and reworks the powerpc platform probe code to use a better mechanism. With this, board support files can simply declare a new machine type with a macro, and implement a probe() function that uses the flattened device-tree to detect if they apply for a given machine. We now have a machine_is() macro that replaces the comparisons of _machine with the various PLATFORM_* constants. This commit also changes various drivers to use the new macro instead of looking at _machine. 2006-01-09[PATCH] 3/5 powerpc: Add platform functions interpreterBenjamin Herrenschmidt
This is the platform function interpreter itself along with the backends for UniN/U3/U4, mac-io, GPIOs and i2c. It adds the ability to execute those do-platform-* scripts in the device-tree (at least for most devices for which a backend is provided). This should replace the clock spreading hacks properly. It might also have an impact on all sort of machines since some of the scripts marked "at init" will now be executed on boot (or some other on sleep/wakeup), those will possibly do things that the kernel didn't do at all, like setting some values into some i2c devices (changing thermal sensor calibration or conversion rate) etc... Thus regression testing is MUCH welcome. Also loook for errors in dmesg. That's also why I've left rather verbose debugging enabled in this version of the patch. (I do expect some Windtunnel G4s to show some errors as they have an i2c clock chip on the PMU bus that uses some primitives that the i2c backend doesn't implement yet. I really need users that have one of those machine to come back to me so we can get that done right, though the errors themselves should be harmless, I suspect the machine might not run at full speed). 2006-01-09[PATCH] 1/5 powerpc: Rework PowerMac i2c part 1Benjamin Herrenschmidt
This is the first part of a rework of the PowerMac i2c code. It completely reworks the "low_i2c" layer. It is now more flexible, supports KeyWest, SMU and PMU i2c busses, and provides functions to match device nodes to i2c busses and adapters. This patch also extends & fix some bugs in the SMU driver related to i2c support and removes the clock spreading hacks from the pmac feature code rather than adapting them to the new API since they'll be replaced by the platform function code completely in patch 3/5 Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2006-01-09[PATCH] powerpc: Experimental support for new G5 Macs (#2)Benjamin Herrenschmidt
This adds some very basic support for the new machines, including the Quad G5 (tested), and other new dual core based machines and iMac G5 iSight (untested). This is still experimental ! There is no thermal control yet, there is no proper handing of MSIs, etc.. but it boots, I have all 4 cores up on my machine. Compared to the previous version of this patch, this one adds DART IOMMU support for the U4 chipset and thus should work fine on setups with more than 2Gb of RAM. 2005-10-20powerpc: Merge various powermac-related header files.Paul Mackerras
Except for smu.h, which moved from asm-ppc64 to asm-powerpc, all of these moved from asm-ppc to asm-powerpc. In each case the asm-ppc64 version (if there was one) was just a single line including the asm-ppc version. Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
