2007-08-30[SPARC64]: Fix type and constant sizes wrt. sun4u IMAP/ICLR handling.David S. Miller
Sometimes we were using 32-bit values and the top bits were getting inadvertantly chopped off. This will matter for the forthcoming Fire controller MSI support. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2007-08-30[TCP]: Allow minimum RTO to be configurable via routing metrics.David S. Miller
Cell phone networks do link layer retransmissions and other things that cause unnecessary timeout retransmits. So allow the minimum RTO to be inflated per-route to deal with this. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2007-08-30SCTP: Fix to encode PROTOCOL VIOLATION error cause correctlyWei Yongjun
PROTOCOL VIOLATION error cause in ABORT is bad encode when make abort chunk. When SCTP encode ABORT chunk with PROTOCOL VIOLATION error cause, it just add the error messages to PROTOCOL VIOLATION error cause, the rest four bytes(struct sctp_paramhdr) is just add to the chunk, not change the length of error cause. This cause the ABORT chunk to be a bad format. The chunk is like this: ABORT chunk Chunk type: ABORT (6) Chunk flags: 0x00 Chunk length: 72 (*1) Protocol violation cause Cause code: Protocol violation (0x000d) Cause length: 62 (*2) Cause information: 5468652063756D756C61746976652074736E2061636B2062... Cause padding: 0000 [Needless] 00030010 Chunk Length(*1) = 72 but Cause length(*2) only 62, not include the extend 4 bytes. ((72 - sizeof(chunk_hdr)) = 68) != (62 +3) / 4 * 4 Signed-off-by: Wei Yongjun <yjwei@cn.fujitsu.com> Signed-off-by: Vlad Yasevich <vladislav.yasevich@hp.com>
2007-08-29SCTP: properly clean up fragment and ordering queues during FWD-TSN.Vlad Yasevich
When we recieve a FWD-TSN (meaning the peer has abandoned the data), we need to clean up any partially received messages that may be hanging out on the re-assembly or re-ordering queues. This is a MUST requirement that was not properly done before. Signed-off-by: Vlad Yasevich <vladislav.yasevich@hp.com.>
2007-08-28sched: make the scheduler converge to the ideal latencyIngo Molnar
de-HZ-ification of the granularity defaults unearthed a pre-existing property of CFS: while it correctly converges to the granularity goal, it does not prevent run-time fluctuations in the range of [-gran ... 0 ... +gran]. With the increase of the granularity due to the removal of HZ dependencies, this becomes visible in chew-max output (with 5 tasks running): out: 28 . 27. 32 | flu: 0 . 0 | ran: 9 . 13 | per: 37 . 40 out: 27 . 27. 32 | flu: 0 . 0 | ran: 17 . 13 | per: 44 . 40 out: 27 . 27. 32 | flu: 0 . 0 | ran: 9 . 13 | per: 36 . 40 out: 29 . 27. 32 | flu: 2 . 0 | ran: 17 . 13 | per: 46 . 40 out: 28 . 27. 32 | flu: 0 . 0 | ran: 9 . 13 | per: 37 . 40 out: 29 . 27. 32 | flu: 0 . 0 | ran: 18 . 13 | per: 47 . 40 out: 28 . 27. 32 | flu: 0 . 0 | ran: 9 . 13 | per: 37 . 40 average slice is the ideal 13 msecs and the period is picture-perfect 40 msecs. But the 'ran' field fluctuates around 13.33 msecs and there's no mechanism in CFS to keep that from happening: it's a perfectly valid solution that CFS finds. to fix this we add a granularity/preemption rule that knows about the "target latency", which makes tasks that run longer than the ideal latency run a bit less. The simplest approach is to simply decrease the preemption granularity when a task overruns its ideal latency. For this we have to track how much the task executed since its last preemption. ( this adds a new field to task_struct, but we can eliminate that overhead in 2.6.24 by putting all the scheduler timestamps into an anonymous union. ) with this change in place, chew-max output is fluctuation-less all around: out: 28 . 27. 39 | flu: 0 . 2 | ran: 13 . 13 | per: 41 . 40 out: 28 . 27. 39 | flu: 0 . 2 | ran: 13 . 13 | per: 41 . 40 out: 28 . 27. 39 | flu: 0 . 2 | ran: 13 . 13 | per: 41 . 40 out: 28 . 27. 39 | flu: 0 . 2 | ran: 13 . 13 | per: 41 . 40 out: 28 . 27. 39 | flu: 0 . 1 | ran: 13 . 13 | per: 41 . 40 out: 28 . 27. 39 | flu: 0 . 1 | ran: 13 . 13 | per: 41 . 40 this patch has no impact on any fastpath or on any globally observable scheduling property. 2007-08-27[XTENSA] Add support for cache-aliasingChris Zankel
Add support for processors that have cache-aliasing issues, such as the Stretch S5000 processor. Cache-aliasing means that the size of the cache (for one way) is larger than the page size, thus, a page can end up in several places in cache depending on the virtual to physical translation. The method used here is to map a user page temporarily through the auto-refill way 0 and of of the DTLB. We probably will want to revisit this issue and use a better approach with kmap/kunmap. 2007-08-27[XTENSA] Add support for executable/non-executable feature in the mmuChris Zankel
Newer processor versions starting with Xtensa6/LX2 support an 'executable' bit for memory pages. This bit replaces the 'valid' bit, so it must be always set to one for older processor versions. To mark a page invalid, we now set the cache-attributes to b11, which is backward compatible. Signed-off-by: Chris Zankel <chris@zankel.net>

2007-08-25sched: adaptive scheduler granularityPeter Zijlstra
Instead of specifying the preemption granularity, specify the wanted latency. By fixing the granlarity to a constany the wakeup latency it a function of the number of running tasks on the rq. Invert this relation. sysctl_sched_granularity becomes a minimum for the dynamic granularity computed from the new sysctl_sched_latency. Then use this latency to do more intelligent granularity decisions: if there are fewer tasks running then we can schedule coarser. This helps performance while still always keeping the latency target. Signed-off-by: Peter Zijlstra <a.p.zijlstra@chello.nl> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
