2007-02-12[PATCH] mark struct file_operations const 7Arjan van de Ven
Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. 2006-09-22[DECNET]: Covert rules to use generic codeSteven Whitehouse
This patch converts the DECnet rules code to use the generic rules system created by Thomas Graf <tgraf@suug.ch>. Signed-off-by: Steven Whitehouse <steve@chygwyn.com> Acked-by: Thomas Graf <tgraf@suug.ch> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

This patch means that 64bit kernel/32bit userland platforms will now work correctly with DECnet. Signed-off-by: Patrick Caulfield <patrick@tykepenguin.com> Signed-off-by: Steven Whitehouse <steve@chygwyn.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2006-03-20[DECnet]: Endian annotation and fixes for DECnet.Steven Whitehouse
The typedef for dn_address has been removed in favour of using __le16 or __u16 directly as appropriate. All the DECnet header files are updated accordingly. The byte ordering of dn_eth2dn() and dn_dn2eth() are both changed since just about all their callers wanted network order rather than host order, so the conversion is now done in the functions themselves. Several missed endianess conversions have been picked up during the conversion process. The nh_gw field in struct dn_fib_info has been changed from a 32 bit field to 16 bits as it ought to be. One or two cases of using htons rather than dn_htons in the routing code have been found and fixed. There are still a few warnings to fix, but this patch deals with the important cases. 2006-01-03[NET]: Add a dev_ioctl() fallback to sock_ioctl()Christoph Hellwig
Currently all network protocols need to call dev_ioctl as the default fallback in their ioctl implementations. This patch adds a fallback to dev_ioctl to sock_ioctl if the protocol returned -ENOIOCTLCMD. This way all the procotol ioctl handlers can be simplified and we don't need to export dev_ioctl. 2006-01-03[NET]: move struct proto_ops to constEric Dumazet
I noticed that some of 'struct proto_ops' used in the kernel may share a cache line used by locks or other heavily modified data. (default linker alignement is 32 bytes, and L1_CACHE_LINE is 64 or 128 at least) This patch makes sure a 'struct proto_ops' can be declared as const, so that all cpus can share all parts of it without false sharing. This is not mandatory : a driver can still use a read/write structure if it needs to (and eventually a __read_mostly) I made a global stubstitute to change all existing occurences to make them const. This should reduce the possibility of false sharing on SMP, and speedup some socket system calls. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2005-12-05[DECNET]: add memory buffer settings Steven Whitehouse

2005-11-11[DECNET]: fix SIGPIPEPatrick Caulfield
Currently recvmsg generates SIGPIPE whereas sendmsg does not; for the other stacks it seems to be the other way round! It also fixes the bug where reading from a socket whose peer has shutdown returned -EINVAL rather than 0. Signed-off-by: Patrick Caulfield <patrick@tykepenguin.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2005-10-08[PATCH] gfp flags annotations - part 1Al Viro
- added typedef unsigned int __nocast gfp_t; - replaced __nocast uses for gfp flags with gfp_t - it gives exactly the same warnings as far as sparse is concerned, doesn't change generated code (from gcc point of view we replaced unsigned int with typedef) and documents what's going on far better. 2005-09-01[DECNET]: Tidy send side socket SKB allocation.Patrick Caulfield
Patch from Steve Whitehouse which I've vetted and tested: "This patch is really intended has a move towards fixing the sendmsg/recvmsg functions in various ways so that we will finally have working nagle. Also reduces code duplication." Signed-off-by: Patrick Caulfield <patrick@tykepenguin.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2005-08-29[TCP]: Move the tcp sock states to net/tcp_states.hArnaldo Carvalho de Melo
Lots of places just needs the states, not even linux/tcp.h, where this enum was, needs it. This speeds up development of the refactorings as less sources are rebuilt when things get moved from net/tcp.h. 2005-08-29[NET]: Kill skb->real_devDavid S. Miller
Bonding just wants the device before the skb_bond() decapsulation occurs, so simply pass that original device into packet_type->func() as an argument. It remains to be seen whether we can use this same exact thing to get rid of skb->input_dev as well. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2005-08-29[NET]: Kill skb->listDavid S. Miller
Remove the "list" member of struct sk_buff, as it is entirely redundant. All SKB list removal callers know which list the SKB is on, so storing this in sk_buff does nothing other than taking up some space. Two tricky bits were SCTP, which I took care of, and two ATM drivers which Francois Romieu <romieu@fr.zoreil.com> fixed up. Signed-off-by: David S. 2005-07-08[NET]: Transform skb_queue_len() binary tests into skb_queue_empty()David S. Miller
This is part of the grand scheme to eliminate the qlen member of skb_queue_head, and subsequently remove the 'list' member of sk_buff. Most users of skb_queue_len() want to know if the queue is empty or not, and that's trivially done with skb_queue_empty() which doesn't use the skb_queue_head->qlen member and instead uses the queue list emptyness as the test. 2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
