2009-11-04net: Introduce for_each_netdev_rcu() iteratorEric Dumazet
Adds RCU management to the list of netdevices. Convert some for_each_netdev() users to RCU version, if it can avoid read_lock-ing dev_base_lock Ie: read_lock(&dev_base_loack); for_each_netdev(net, dev) some_action(); read_unlock(&dev_base_lock); becomes : rcu_read_lock(); for_each_netdev_rcu(net, dev) some_action(); rcu_read_unlock(); Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2008-03-26[NET] NETNS: Omit sock->sk_net without CONFIG_NET_NS.YOSHIFUJI Hideaki
Introduce per-sock inlines: sock_net(), sock_net_set() and per-inet_timewait_sock inlines: twsk_net(), twsk_net_set(). Without CONFIG_NET_NS, no namespace other than &init_net exists. Let's explicitly define them to help compiler optimizations. Signed-off-by: YOSHIFUJI Hideaki <yoshfuji@linux-ipv6.org>

2008-01-28[NET]: Modify all rtnetlink methods to only work in the initial namespace (v2)Denis V. Lunev
Before I can enable rtnetlink to work in all network namespaces I need to be certain that something won't break. So this patch deliberately disables all of the rtnletlink methods in everything except the initial network namespace. After the methods have been audited this extra check can be disabled. 2007-10-10[NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.Eric W. Biederman
This patch makes most of the generic device layer network namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a network namespace variable, and then it picks up a few associated variables. The functions: dev_getbyhwaddr dev_getfirsthwbytype dev_get_by_flags dev_get_by_name __dev_get_by_name dev_get_by_index __dev_get_by_index dev_ioctl dev_ethtool dev_load wireless_process_ioctl were modified to take a network namespace argument, and deal with it. vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their hooks will receive a network namespace argument. So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces. For now the ifindex generator is left global. Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else we will have corner case problems with migration when we get that far. At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when you change namespaces, and the like. Signed-off-by: Eric W. 2007-05-03[NET]: Rework dev_base via list_head (v3)Pavel Emelianov
Cleanup of dev_base list use, with the aim to simplify making device list per-namespace. In almost every occasion, use of dev_base variable and dev->next pointer could be easily replaced by for_each_netdev loop. A few most complicated places were converted to using first_netdev()/next_netdev(). 2007-03-25[DECNet] fib: Fix out of bound access of dn_fib_props[]Thomas Graf
Fixes a typo which caused fib_props[] to have the wrong size and makes sure the value used to index the array which is provided by userspace via netlink is checked to avoid out of bound access. Signed-off-by: Thomas Graf <tgraf@suug.ch> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2006-09-22[DECNET]: Increase number of possible routing tables to 2^32Patrick McHardy
Increase the number of possible routing tables to 2^32 by replacing the fixed sized array of pointers by a hash table and replacing iterations over all possible table IDs by hash table walking. Signed-off-by: Patrick McHardy <kaber@trash.net> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2006-09-22[NET]: Introduce RTA_TABLE/FRA_TABLE attributesPatrick McHardy
Introduce RTA_TABLE route attribute and FRA_TABLE routing rule attribute to hold 32 bit routing table IDs. Usespace compatibility is provided by continuing to accept and send the rtm_table field, but because of its limited size it can only carry the low 8 bits of the table ID. This implies that if larger IDs are used, _all_ userspace programs using them need to use RTA_TABLE. Signed-off-by: Patrick McHardy <kaber@trash.net> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2006-09-22[NET]: Use u32 for routing table IDsPatrick McHardy
Use u32 for routing table IDs in net/ipv4 and net/decnet in preparation of support for a larger number of routing tables. net/ipv6 already uses u32 everywhere and needs no further changes. No functional changes are made by this patch. Signed-off-by: Patrick McHardy <kaber@trash.net> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2006-03-20[DECnet]: Endian annotation and fixes for DECnet.Steven Whitehouse
The typedef for dn_address has been removed in favour of using __le16 or __u16 directly as appropriate. All the DECnet header files are updated accordingly. The byte ordering of dn_eth2dn() and dn_dn2eth() are both changed since just about all their callers wanted network order rather than host order, so the conversion is now done in the functions themselves. Several missed endianess conversions have been picked up during the conversion process. The nh_gw field in struct dn_fib_info has been changed from a 32 bit field to 16 bits as it ought to be. One or two cases of using htons rather than dn_htons in the routing code have been found and fixed. There are still a few warnings to fix, but this patch deals with the important cases. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
