2008-07-14i2c: Check for ACPI resource conflictsJean Delvare
Check for ACPI resource conflicts in i2c bus drivers. I've included all recent SMBus master drivers for PC hardware. I've voluntarily left out: * Drivers that don't run on PCs: they can't conflict with ACPI. * Bit-banged bus device drivers: it's very unlikely that ACPI would deal with such buses. 2008-07-14i2c: Let bus drivers add SPD to their classJean Delvare
Let general purpose I2C/SMBus bus drivers add SPD to their class. Once this is done, we will be able to tell the eeprom driver to only probe for SPD EEPROMs and similar on these buses. Note that I took a conservative approach here, adding I2C_CLASS_SPD to many drivers that have no idea whether they can host SPD EEPROMs or not. This is to make sure that the eeprom driver doesn't stop probing buses where SPD EEPROMs or equivalent live. So, bus driver maintainers and users should feel free to remove the SPD class from drivers those buses never have SPD EEPROMs or they don't want the eeprom driver to bind to them. 2008-07-14i2c: Bus drivers return -Errno not -1David Brownell
Tighten error paths used by various i2c adapters (mostly x86) so they return real fault/errno codes instead of a "-1" (which is most often interpreted as "-EPERM"). Build tested, with eyeball review. One minor initial goal is to have adapters consistently return the code "-ENXIO" when addressing a device doesn't get an ACK response, at least in the probe paths where they are already good at stifling related logspam. 2008-07-14i2c-nforce2: Add support for multiplexing on the Tyan S4985Jean Delvare
Just like the Tyan S4882, the S4985 uses a multiplexer to give access to all 16 memory module SPD EEPROMs. This specific i2c-nforce2-s4985 driver adds support for this. It is heavily based on the older i2c-amd756-s4882 driver. As more mainboards will use multiplexer chips, we will have to find a way to support them without having to write a new specfic driver for each. 2008-05-18i2c-nforce2: Disable the second SMBus channel on the DFI Lanparty NF4 ExpertJean Delvare
There is a strange chip at 0x2e on the second SMBus channel of the DFI Lanparty NF4 Expert motherboard. Accessing the chip reboots the system. As there's nothing interesting on this SMBus channel, the easiest and safest thing to do is to disable it on that board. 2007-10-13i2c-nforce2: Abort the transaction on errorOleg Ryjkov
This patch is to add an abort function that will bring back the MCP51/55 controller if it was blocked by a block-read operation, in particular. (When a slave sends a wrong byte count on a byte read, the host gets locked up). I've only tested it on an MCP51 and MCP55. However, I'm almost certain it will also work on MCP65, I just did not have the board to test it on. Thus for now the abort function will only be called if an MCP51/55 was detected. 2007-10-13i2c-nforce2: Move status checking to a separate functionOleg Ryjkov
This is the first part of the patch that adds a function to reset the nvidia MCP51/55 i2c controller, if something bad happens to it (e.g. a slave sends a wrong byte count during a block transaction). This patch just adds nforce2_check_status function. It was originally written by Hans-Frieder Vogt. The reason that I'm the one sending it is: - I relied on it for the second part of the patch, - It makes the driver code cleaner/better. 2007-05-01i2c: Shrink struct i2c_clientDavid Brownell
This shrinks the size of "struct i2c_client" by 40 bytes: - Substantially shrinks the string used to identify the chip type - The "flags" don't need to be so big - Removes some internal padding It also adds kerneldoc for that struct, explaining how "name" is really a chip type identifier; it's otherwise potentially confusing. Because the I2C_NAME_SIZE symbol was abused for both i2c_client.name and for i2c_adapter.name, this needed to affect i2c_adapter too. The adapters which used that symbol now use the more-obviously-correct idiom of taking the size of that field. JD: Shorten i2c_adapter.name from 50 to 48 bytes while we're here, to avoid wasting space in padding. 2007-02-14[PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau
After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
